To become an L1 Master Mechanic, professionals need to undergo rigorous testing to prove expert knowledge of advanced engine performance. In fact, this level of ASE certification is also referred to as Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification. Fleet service professionals with this specific knowledge can properly diagnose and repair power-train controls, including computerized controls and multiple systems. Systems include air induction, fuel, ignition, and emissions. Additionally, they can properly diagnose and repair issues that cause emissions test failures. L1 Master Mechanics are able to provide fleet service for cars, trucks, and SUVs, and these technicians are required to pass an updated exam every five years to ensure their knowledge and skills are always up-to-date with the latest fleet service needs and technologies.
